DESTINATION GUIDES

Zambia

Zambia

Spectacular, Remarkable, Unique, and Impressive are just a handful of words that describe the largest single sheet of water in the world. This sheet of water is over a mile wide and 100 metres tall – this sheet of water is known as Victoria Falls. Significantly larger than Niagara Falls in North America, this is only rivalled to South America’s Iguazu Falls. Zambia, located in southeast Africa is home to this marvel of nature.

Formerly Northern Rhodesia, the country was named after the Zambezi River where the Victoria Falls is located. This nation is landlocked by many neighbours; The Democratic Republic of Congo to the North, Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi on the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia to the south and Angola on the west. The major cities of Zambia include Lusaka and Livingstone. Lusaka is the capital city while Livingstone is the adventure capital.

Attractions and Cities

There’s more than just Victoria Falls here. You can explore Africa’s finest Safaris, visit massive lakes, check out the wetlands, or engage in an adrenaline rush. There’s also the big game, abundant bird life, and spectacular scenery. There are over 19 Wildlife Reserves here and 17 other waterfalls.

There’s a region named The Copperbelt. This region is well known for copper mines. Mines include Ndola, Kitwe, Chingola, and Luanshya. Don’t forget the smaller towns either, which include Chipata, Isoka, Kasembe, Kasama, Kapiri, Mposhe, Mansa, Mkushi, Mongu, Mpika, Nchelenje, and Serenje. Visit one of the many lakes -- Lake Kariba, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Baqngweulu, and Lake Mweru each have their own story.

National Parks of Zambia

How about wildlife and game reserves? There’s nothing better than watching animals in their natural habitat. South Luangwa is rated one of the top game reserves in the world. North Luangwa is very wild, but you can only enter with a safari operator. Kafue is one of Africa’s biggest parks, lots of game, lions, and vast herds of antelope. There’s also Lower Zambezi, Sambu, Lochinvar, Nyika, Sioma Ngwezi, Kasanka, Bangweulul Floodplains, Liuwa Plain and Mosi-o-Tunya.
